I've driven stock and modified TTs, ridden in heavily modified TTs but it doesn't make me feel like I HAVE to have more power, right now. It just depends on you priorities. For me, I told myself I wouldn't mess with boost until I was done with school. I'm done, but blowing the money to swap or buy another car just isn't that critical. I think some just let themselves get influenced too easily or feel inadequate without it. Besides, cops won't let you have any fun on the streets around here, so extra horsepower would be like torture. I can still hang pretty well on the track in the NA.
